In the ever-growing landscape of Pilates teacher training and certification programs we thought we’d give you a run down of what we feel are the best options out there. We use our standard as a gauge. Our Comprehensive Teacher Training program, also known as the Comprehensive Immersion requires a 600-hour apprenticeship and follows the guidelines set forth in the classical Method of Pilates as well as the guidelines that adheres to the Pilates Method Alliance.

While we would LOVE to have everybody in the nation (and globally) travel to NYC to take our teacher training and certification courses, we understand that logistics and cost are factors for everybody considering a career as a Pilates instructor.

The Pilates Method Alliance lists schools in their directory by geographic region. To be a nationally recognized Pilates certification program any studio or school must officially say they offer a certificate of training. Only a 3rd party can provide a certification. Which is where the PMA comes into play. They offer an exam that Pilates instructors can take which then certifies them. It’s an option to take the exam or not and does not effect making a living as a Pilates instructor. It’s a bit of a complicated area. In New York City, the top 3 studios offering Pilates Certification programs, whether it’s Mat and/or Comprehensive are without a doubt, Core (duh!), Equinox, Real Pilates. All 3 of us adhere to classical principles delivering a structured and time-sensitive comprehensive program that includes test outs, mentoring, apprenticeship, observation hours and required passing of various exams and auditions. Club Pilates is an international chain or franchise of Pilates and they also offer a Pilates teacher training program. We can’t really put our stamp of approval on it as we don’t know much about their Pilates education protocol but due to the vast amount of locations it may be an option if you have no other classical options near you.
