Necessity is the mother of invention as they say. And that couldn’t be more true than in Pilates. I can’t tell you how many times we get calls from studios all over the world asking to post job listings for them to our certification grads. Studios seem to need good talent the world over!

In 2003, one year into opening the studio and growing fast we decided to put in the work and create a teacher training program. We felt we knew enough about what programs were out there already, what their strengths were and where there could be improvement. We began the arduous task of building the curriculum, content and structure and identifying along the way how to differentiate our “product” from the others out there. What is our market advantage? What kind of teacher do we value and how do we create a work flow that can produce this at scale?  And just to remind you — this was way before social media. It was before the Iphone. So outreach and recruitment was mostly through word of mouth and guerrilla tactics on the ground.

Diving Head First into Pilates Teacher Training

Our first Comprehensive Teacher Training Course in NYC enrolled 3 people. Of the 3, one stayed with Core for 12 years and rose through the ranks to become our Director of Education (talk about retention!) and another student has been and is still quite a popular Pilates figure in the city and works as a senior-level instructor downtown. Our teacher training program was a life changer for them undoubtedly

But most importantly for us, it was a game changer. We had a constant flow of prospective talent every 6 months in which to choose the top and keep them as teachers. And the most rewarding part wasn’t fulfilling OUR need for great teachers but seeing how the job opportunities we were creating changed the lives and fortunes of so many.

I’m so proud of our program and how relevant and known it has become. And how impressive our graduates are – even right out of the course! They’ve impressed studio owners and corporations alike and it’s a reputation we hold dear.
