How are
Core Pilates’ Instructor Training Programs
different from other programs?
Our program is set apart from other training programs
in many ways. The most obvious is our focus on the
Classical Method of Pilates. This “classical” method,
or “authentic” method has deviated the
least from Joseph Pilates’ original work. It’s
the real deal – not a hybrid of fitness or
yoga mixed with Pilates. Typically this style of
Pilates has come to be known as “East Coast
Pilates” due to the fact that Joseph Pilates’ original
studio was in New York City.
Our Instructor Education Program is easily broken
into two career paths: The
Mat Training Course™ and The
Comprehensive Training Course™. Unlike
other training programs, you do not have to take The
Mat Training Course™ before enrolling into The
Comprehensive Training Course™, thus saving
time and money. The Comprehensive
Training Course™ is exactly that – complete
Pilates training. You will learn the foundation of
Mat work as well as the widely used apparatus like
the reformer, Cadillac and chairs while also learning
the rarely taught Pedi-Pull, and Sandbag. Another
unique feature of The
Comprehensive Training Course™ is a weekend
intensive devoted exclusively to the props used in
Pilates such as the Magic circles, big balls, small
balls, foam rollers, and resistance bands.
And unlike any other program, Core is happy to teach
an Anatomy in Clay™ workshop for all apprentices
to learn anatomy in a fun, interactive and memorable
way.
The Mat Training Course™ incorporates
beginner AND intermediate level exercises, again
saving time and money but getting the most knowledge
out of the most fundamental of Pilates work. You
get an in-depth manual that includes modifications
to simplify and challenge the exercises thus arming
you with a huge array of exercises to make teaching
Mat a worthwhile experience for you and for your
class! You also become a "Mat Course apprentice"
which allows all enrolled students of The Mat Training
Course one week after the course ends to still utilize
the studio for self or group practice and observation.
The most important differentiation however isn’t
in the design of our courses but in our training
philosophy. We don’t want to produce cookie
cutter instructors. We set a standard of acceptance
from day one. We recognize that each trainee brings
his/her uniqueness and individual teaching style
to the mix and it is the goal of our program to embrace
and build upon each individual’s unique teaching
style.
What
is the most important thing to look for when choosing
a Pilates Certification Program?
It is important to choose a teacher training program
that meets the training requirements of the Pilates
Method Alliance. The PMA has established an internationally
accepted standard for Pilates education and training
as well as the first-ever national certification
exam. Core Pilates NYC is recognized by the PMA as
an educational center, so students enrolled in any
of our teacher training courses are assured that
their training will be recognized by others in the
industry. Also, in keeping with the standards of
the PMA and the exam requirements, any training program
should have Anatomy. Both The
Mat Training Course™ and The
Comprehensive Training Course™ provide
a uniquely designed Anatomy course.
Why
are the prerequisites necessary?
Both The Mat Training Course™ and The
Comprehensive Training Course™ are
intensive, so it only makes sense to come in ‘ahead
of the curve’ with as much familiarity
with the Pilates Method. Having a solid foundation
of the movements in your own body will allow
for a deeper understanding of the principles
and how they integrate, various modifications
of each exercise and how to work with different
body types and special cases. Coming into the
first day of a weekend intensive fluent in at
least the beginner level creates a cohesive learning
environment from which to proceed to a deeper
understand of the Method for everyone enrolled.
What
special benefits are associated with the Core Instructor
Training Programs?
From guidance in finding work as a newly trained Pilates
instructor, to a complimentary massage and discounted
chiropractic, we are proud of the perks that come
with enrolling in our Instructor
Education Programs. Our Graduate
Network is a wonderful resource to tap into when
considering our teacher training program. We want
you to get the information you need and believe that
the best source for that is a recent graduate. We
believe in our program, as do our graduates, so we
welcome any potential trainee to contact a member
of our network.
Core Pilates NYC is a Preferred Sales Partner with
Peak Pilates. We can offer our trainees and graduates
discounts on the purchase of industrial-grade classical
Pilates apparatus thus allowing you significant savings.
As a Comprehensive apprentice you will receive 10%
discounts on sessions and tower classes and free
mat classes. You will also have an opportunity to
earn an hourly pay as you complete your apprentice
hours through our Apprentice Private sessions where
clients pay for a substantially discounted private
session taught by apprentices.
How
soon after completion of my certification can I get
a job?
You can begin teaching as soon as you have completed
and passed all phases of the course requirements.
If you are considering The
Comprehensive Training Course™ and want
to take the PMA exam, you can still begin teaching
while awaiting the exam date. It is optional to take
the exam so it doesn’t prevent you from teaching.
Do
you offer Instructor Training Programs anywhere other
than New York City?
We currently offer The Mat
Training Course™ and The
Comprehensive Training Course™ in Los
Angeles and Hong Kong, with more national and
international cities in the works very soon.
We can bring our teacher training courses anywhere
through the hosting
program.
How
long does the The Comprehensive Training Course™ take
to complete?
The Comprehensive Training
Course™ is designed to have you complete
and pass all phases of the program in 6 months.
Does
Core’s Instructor Training Program and Continuing
Education Seminars qualify for ACE credit?
Our courses have been submitted and are pending approval
by ACE. Shortly, trainees can receive credit from
our courses. Very soon our Continuing Education Seminars
will be approved by the PMA ensuring that already
certified participants who are interested in attending
our seminars can receive CEC’s (continuing
education credits) to uphold their certification
standards.
