Best thing to eat for breakfast?

Home made granola on Greek yogurt with fresh seasonal fruit. Yum!

What’s your favorite exercise to teach and do you have a special spin to it that you prefer to throw at your clients?

I love teaching the teaser with the push through bar because it helps you find the proper position for a very challenging exercise. I had such a hard time with the teaser on the mat when I started Pilates and it was a revelation when I tried it with the bar. I could finally get the form right without fear of hurting myself! Having some support means being able to deepen into the right posture thus getting the full benefit of the exercise while training your body to find the correct pose. It can help first time clients for this reason but it can also challenge more advanced clients by allowing them to hold the pose while working difficult variations with their legs and arms.

If Joseph Pilates were alive today, what would you ask him?

If I could watch him train one of my clients. I'd love to see what he noticed in an individuals body and what exercises he chose to teach them.

Top 3 places you’ve traveled?

Istanbul, Turkey. Oaxaca, Mexico. Lisbon, Portugal.

What’s your Pilates “a-ha” moment?

When I could finally do a roll up. I'd been struggling at it for years and when I started to train to become a teacher I finally realized that I'd been cheating the whole time by using momentum. When I stopped doing that and forced myself to really use control while struggling through the hard parts and admitted that I needed to use modifications, I improved so fast I couldn't believe it! Turns out years of uncontrolled movement got me nowhere while mere months of doing it right developed my muscles enough so that I could finally do it properly. A-HA!

Two words that describe your teaching style?

Curious. Kind.

Care to share any teaching blunders?

I couldn't get body parts right for at least the first month of teaching. I sounded like a crazy person. "Reach for your head, shin, wait, no, the things at the end of your foot...oh right, toes!" I knew what I wanted to say but my words simply escaped me.

How has Pilates changed your body?

In every way! I am stronger then I've ever been, my posture has improved and I have ten times the energy.

I don’t leave home without....?

Trying to cultivate gratitude and curiosity for the day ahead.

What quality do you most admire in a teacher?

Having a keen eye. Being able to look at a client throughout a session and know what it is that that individual will benefit the most from as well as how best to convey that to them. People hear things in different ways so it is important to know how to communicate differently with different people.

What is your signature fashion style?

Boots! For teaching, I love comfy leggings, a simple tank top or t-shirt and always a great pair of boots.

I am an expert in____________?

Taboo. I'm ruthless and I can read my friends minds ;-)

Where can we find you on any given Saturday night?

First the grocery store for whatever looks fresh and good then back home to help my boyfriend cook a delicious meal (I help by cleaning up while letting him do all the cooking :-) listen to music, walk the dog then off to bed, I'm at the studio early Sunday morning!
